Investing in Leader Well-Being Through Ritual and Practice

September 15, 2025

BoardWalk Consulting, Jesse Parker Williams Foundation, The Annie E. Casey Foundation, and the United Way of Greater Atlanta recently partnered with Shawntà Hooks and Dr. Fálámi Devoe to host a three-hour well-being experience for a cohort of Atlanta nonprofit CEOs and senior leaders.

The session focused on ritualizing self-care and integrating science-backed tools to support leadership under pressure. Together, Dr. Fálámi and Ms. Hooks designed an immersive program that emphasized sustainable well-being through ritual, technology, and mindful practices in both professional and organizational contexts.

Leaders engaged in sound healing, Qigong, meditation, and creative expression—moving beyond a traditional “sit-and-get” workshop into a fully interactive, embodied experience. Dr. Fálámi introduced her I Am Grounded Framework, guiding participants to claim their self-care rituals, awaken their meaning, and root them in daily practice. Ms. Hooks shared her Catch → Convert → Create Framework, helping leaders notice default stress responses and shift into clarity in real time.

Resilient leadership starts with well-being—and this gathering proved what’s possible when leaders prioritize both.

The results were powerful:

  • 100% of participants found the session valuable
  • 94% expressed interest in more offerings
  • Several teams have already begun integrating these practices into staff meetings

At BoardWalk, we believe that investing in leader well-being is investing in stronger, more resilient organizations. If you are exploring ways to invest in the well-being and effectiveness of nonprofit leaders, we would be glad to share what worked.
