Children’s Harbor is an organization that serves seriously ill children and their families through unique, no-cost services at both the family center located at the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children in downtown Birmingham, and at its Lake Martin retreat facility in Alexander City. Outzen previously served at Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart in Pensacola, Florida. Boardwalk is pleased to see the benefits that this partnership will bring to the many families Children’s Harbor supports.

A Lake Martin-based nonprofit with a statewide reach has a new executive director.
Cathryn “Cat” Outzen will take the helm of Children’s Harbor effective April 6 after being selected by a seven-person selection committee headed by Tom Lamberth, president and CEO of Russell Lands.
Vicki Tuggle, director of business administration, has been in the interim CEO position since April 2019.
Children’s Harbor serves seriously ill children and their families through unique, no-cost services at both the family center located at the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children in downtown Birmingham, and at its Lake Martin retreat facility in Alexander City.
Outzen currently is the director of community relations and children’s programs at the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart in Pensacola, Florida, and has been there for more than 14 years. Most recently, she directed Western Panhandle Early Steps Program, developmental pediatrics, the Sacred Heart Autism Center, the school nurse program and media services. She also coordinated and ran the pediatric medical camps for children with chronic and terminal illnesses at Sacred Heart Miracle Camp for more than 12 years.
“Children’s Harbor is an amazing organization, and I am so honored to be a part of this service-driven ministry for our most vulnerable children and families,” said Outzen.
