Governing for Nonprofit Excellence Harvard Business School November 10-13, 2004
To celebrate the start of BoardWalk's third year, we
are pleased to announce the BoardWalk Governance
Fellowships, two half-tuition scholarships to the
highly acclaimed program, Governing for Nonprofit
Excellence ("GNE"), offered each fall by Harvard
Business School. This year's program is conducted
November 10-13, so applications for the fellowship
need to be submitted quickly.
Drawing on experienced faculty from several
graduate schools at Harvard, GNE offers nonprofit
and foundation board members an unparalleled
opportunity to explore strategic trends and best
practices with some forty participants from 25 states
and half a dozen countries.
We attended the program last November and found it
enormously stimulating and useful. Although the
deadline is tight, we hope you will follow the link
below for more information on how to apply to this
exceptional course. And feel free to share this
opportunity with any nonprofit you think might
benefit.

Journalist David Bornstein has written a most
captivating book, How to Change the World:
Social
Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas, in
which
he profiles nine individuals from around the world--
"driven, creative individuals who question the status
quo, exploit new opportunities, refuse to give up, and
remake the world for the better." As Ashoka
notes, "What business entrepreneurs are to the
economy, social entrepreneurs are to social change."
Bornstein has studied the best and they get
exposure.
On October 12th, Mr. Bornstein is coming to
Atlanta's Oglethorpe University to lead a
discussion
on social entrepreneurialship, its impact and its
drivers.
Joining him on the panel will be two national
entrepreneurs and one up-and-comer: Michelle
Nunn, CEO of
Hands On
Network (formerly CityCares), the national
alliance of
innovative volunteer management and mobilization
organizations, Darell Hammond, CEO of
KaBOOM!, the national nonprofit that
specializes in linking
communities and corporations to build exciting, safe
playgrounds, and Dana Lee, Executive Director of
Health Students Taking Action Together (Health-
STAT), a nonprofit energizing Georgia's health
professional students in service to their communities.
The conference is sponsored by Worthwhile,
a new
magazine committed to putting "purpose and passion
on the same plane as profit"; Art Heals, an
organization that uses original art to create a healing
environment for children's hospitals, daycare centers,
schools, libraries, homes and websites; and
BoardWalk Consulting.
